Our Story

A Family Home
Turned Legacy

Located in the heart of Colombo, Upali's was born in 2013 with a singular vision — to bring families and friends together over authentic Sri Lankan cuisine that feels like home.

For our founder, Mr. Upali Dharmadasa — Managing Director of the Nawaloka Group — cooking is more than passion, it is heritage. The restaurant stands on the very grounds of his childhood home, and as guests pass the portraits of his parents, the late Deshamanya H.K. Dharmadasa and his wife Meelin, they feel the warmth that has been part of this place for generations.

Overlooking the tranquil Viharamaha Devi Park, the majestic Nelum Pokuna Theatre and the iconic Colombo Town Hall, Upali's offers the perfect escape — with every dish telling a story passed down through generations.

"We want to share the beauty of authentic Sri Lankan recipes with the world."
