Our Commitment

Eco & Sustainability

Preserving heritage, protecting the planet.

Our Philosophy

Simply Sustainable

At Upali's, sustainability isn't a trend — it's deeply woven into our Sri Lankan heritage. From sourcing to serving, every decision reflects our commitment to the land, the community, and future generations.

Farm to Table

We source 90% of our produce from local farming communities across Sri Lanka — from Dambulla vegetables to Jaffna seafood and hill-country spices — keeping traditional supply chains alive.

Zero Waste Goal

Through composting, portion optimization, and our kitchen-to-garden cycle, we've reduced food waste by over 60%. Organic waste is composted and returned to our partner farms.

Community First

We employ locally, pay fair wages, and invest in the livelihoods of Sri Lankan farming families. Every meal supports a network of growers, fishermen, and artisans.

What We Do

Our Green Practices

Fresh local ingredients
  • Seasonal Menus
Our menu changes with the seasons, prioritizing what grows naturally — reducing transportation emissions and guaranteeing peak freshness.
  • Water Conservation
Low-flow fixtures, rainwater harvesting for garden irrigation, and strict kitchen protocols reduce our water footprint.
  • Energy Efficiency
Energy-efficient kitchen equipment, LED lighting throughout, and natural ventilation in our ground-floor café cut energy consumption.
  • Eco Packaging
All takeaway packaging is biodegradable or compostable — no single-use plastics leave our kitchen.
  • Heritage Preservation
By cooking 2,000-year-old recipes like Hathmaluwa, we preserve culinary traditions that respect the land and its bounty.
  • Community Programmes
We run cooking workshops for local youth and support school meal programmes — investing in the next generation's relationship with food.
"We believe authentic cuisine and environmental responsibility are one and the same — when you honour the land, the food honours you."
